Hellen Caro Artists Get the Point
Under the instruction of art educator Marcy McGahan, fourth grade students at Hellen Caro learned about the French Pointillist painter, Georges Seurat. Georges Seurat created a painting called Sunday Afternoon on La Grande Jatte. He started the painting in 1884 and finished it in 1886 with 3,456,000 dots of color. The original painting hangs in the Art Institute of Chicago and measures 10 feet wide by 7 feet tall.
In April of 2013, four Hellen Caro students started their own version of Seurat’s painting. Those artists were Kamryn Pinder, Mallory Pharr, Tiffany Lee, and Ashley Laczko. The artwork was completed in May 2013 and was dedicated to the front office of Hellen Caro Elementary this school year for permanent collection.
